Postpaid Wireless Data Revenues Dominating Telecom Industry Growth, Will Reach $130 Billion by 2018, According to New ATLANTIC-ACM Sizing and Share Study

Strategy research consultancy ATLANTIC-ACM today released Strategic Services Take the Stage: U.S. Telecom Wired and Wireless Sizing and Share 2013-2018, the latest edition of the telecom industry’s principal sizing and share study. This year’s study finds that postpaid wireless data services, which have driven the majority of industry growth and investment for the past several years, will represent more than a third of total telecom industry revenues (wireless and wireline) by 2018.

“Postpaid data revenues – those we associate with contract-based plans – are growing faster than all other growth products in the telecom industry,” said Douglas J. Barnett, senior analyst at ATLANTIC-ACM. “While there are many other growth products in the industry – M2M, FTTX, etc. – postpaid data represents the dominant force in the telecom landscape with both size and growth rate factored in. In fact, while postpaid revenues represented less than a fifth of the industry in 2012, they’ll grow at 11.5 percent annually to represent more than a third of total industry revenues by the end of the forecast period.”
